Making Reading Accessible for every child
My name is Ameerah Power, and I created Reading With Power because of something I noticed when I was younger.
I attended a private elementary school where many refugee and multicultural students went to school. A lot of their parents either did not speak English or could not read English. Because of that, many children were missing out on an important part of early learning: being read to at home.
As I got older, I realized how fortunate I was to have parents who read to me every night. What I once thought was normal, I came to understand was actually a privilege.
Reading to children is one of the most important ways to support early development. It helps build vocabulary, improves comprehension, and strengthens imagination and focus. Just as importantly, it creates a sense of connection and confidence in learning. It gives children a strong foundation that can shape their future.
It was difficult to see that some of my classmates were missing out on that experience, not because they didn’t want it, but because of language barriers at home.
That is why I created Reading With Power.
My goal is to make reading more accessible for children and families by providing a simple way for kids to experience stories, build literacy skills, and feel supported. Through read-aloud videos and tutoring, I want to help children have the reading experience every child deserves.
For children whose families face language or literacy barriers, access to reading experiences can make a lasting difference. That’s why Reading With Power exists, to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow, learn, and succeed through the power of stories.
Reading With Power is more than a website. It’s a way to share the joy, comfort, and power of reading with children who need it most.
Most Reading With Power stories are from the public domain source Project Gutenberg,
a trusted online library that provides access to classic children’s stories that are legally available for reading and sharing in order to respect authors and copyright laws.
Our read-aloud videos are designed to give every child the experience of being read to, no matter their background.
Each video is engaging, easy to follow, and created to help children build vocabulary, improve comprehension, and develop a love for reading. Children can listen, follow along, and enjoy stories at their own pace.
These videos are especially helpful for families facing language or literacy barriers, providing a simple and accessible way for kids to experience stories at home.

You do not need to be a strong reader to help your child succeed.
Even if you do not speak or read English fluently, there are many simple and powerful ways you can support your child’s learning and help them build a love for reading.
1. Let Your Child Listen to Stories
It is okay if you cannot read the book yourself.
Listening to stories helps children learn new words, sounds, and ideas.
2. Talk About the Story (in ANY language)
You can talk with your child in your home language.
Talking helps your child understand and remember what they hear.
3. Look at Pictures Together
Even without reading words, pictures tell a story.
This builds vocabulary and confidence.
4. Create a Simple Routine
Try to make reading part of your daily routine.
Small, consistent time makes a big difference.
5. Encourage and Support
Your encouragement matters more than perfect reading.
Confidence helps children grow and learn faster.
6. Use Reading With Power
Our videos and live sessions are here to support you.
